Dr. A. S. Shadd and
Dr. Thomas Spence
Both noted for their
humanitarianism, and community
involvement. One started a drug
store and the other became the
Mayor of Melfort in 1912.
Aside from practicing
medicine, Dr. Thomas Spence
was active in politics and was
Mayor of Melfort from 1912 to
1913. After retiring, Spence
started practicing medicine
again during the epidemic in
1918.
